AAGPBL stands for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
The set consits of 12 teams, the 6 teams from 1952, the 5 teams from 1954 and a 25-player all-time all star team
based on lifetime stats.
1952 was a dead-ball era type season. The pitching mound was 55ft from
home plate. Bases were spaced at 72 ft. and fences were deep in the
outfield. The effect of these dimensions was dominant pitching, few
homers and rampant base stealing. Jean Faut had an incredible 20-2 record
to go along with a 0.93 ERA. Jo Weaver led the league with a .344 batting
average. Only two players hit 10 or more homers, while eight players had
at least 40 stolen bases in a 109 game season. Fort Wayne and South Bend
dominated all other teams.
1954 playing conditions were very similar to major league baseball. The
pitching distance was increased to 60 feet, the distance between bases was
85 feet and the fences were brought in, tripling the homer output from
previous years. Offenses improved drastically. Five players hit over 20
homeruns in a 94 game season, and 5 players hit .350 or better. Jo Weaver
produced one of the most incredible individual performances in baseball
history, hitting .429 with 29 homers and 79 stolen bases in just 333 at bats!
